Group leader and drummer, Dave Clark. Great example of how a unorthodox drumming technique works great for the music it drives forward. Dave’s style is a stiff arm, lots of movement from the elbow, hard hitting, straight forward, and full steam ahead!
Merlefest early 1990’s.
Fantastic video of Tony Rice, Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, Mark O’Conner and Mark Schatz.
Tommy Emmanuel plays his composition, Angelina. While not one of his flashy , tour de force tunes, this video is a text book on technique, timing, and soulfulness. The man is surely lost in the composition, unaware of nothing but the music he is creating and totally submerged in its vibe.
Guitar students: Check out his left foot. A human metronome, in perfect timing, driving the tune forward and adding a wonderful percussive feel. The great ones make it look effortless……..
On the topic of drumming, I see this guy all the time on Hollywood Boulevard, there are tons of videos online but I ran across this one of him drumming with Joe Silvia.
Great video of Peggy Lee performing her classic hit, Fever. Check out drummer Jack Sperling and his hand drumming. It doesn’t get cooler than that! As a former drummer, I could never figure out why this is not done more often. The dynamics that Jack gets using his hands is fantastic. Not to mention that he looks like he is having way too much fun…..
From one of Americas finest songwriter/performers, John Prine. A brief interview (not many exist) and performance form 1992.
